The answer is obvious! It’s people, right?! Hmmm… let’s think about that for a minute. Actually, people can be the company’s greatest liability if they are not being productive. People who are just collecting a paycheck — who are not fully engaged — actually subtract from a company’s bottom line. It is the productivity of employees, not the number of warm bodies, that is the greatest asset and that provides the competitive edge for your company.
It is well known that engaged employees are productive employees. But according to the Gallup’s “State of the American Workplace” survey published in 2013, only 30% of American employees are considered to be engaged. Seventy percent of American workers are emotionally disconnected from their employers (52% disengaged, 18% actively disengaged) — and are therefore likely to be less productive.
If it is the productivity of people that is the asset, then optimizing that productivity is Job 1 for managers. But too often, we see the very employees who are already most productive being expected to take the responsibilities of several employees, wear more hats and work more hours – all with fewer resources. This overloading is a recipe for burnout of your most engaged employees. Forbes contributor Eric Jackman opines, “Your best people need to be doing higher level stuff, not just getting lower level stuff done. Your best people will quit if they’re just continuing to be asked to do the same boring stuff years later.”
What if instead of stressing your most productive workers to their breaking point to “make the numbers,” you could provide them with some experienced support? What if that experienced support was available to you just when you needed it, rather than adding to your burden rate on an ongoing basis? Talencio can provide just such support so that your engaged workers don’t become disengaged by being pushed to their limits.
